4 years of game maker? Did you start when you were 8 or something?
Find some simple tutorials from someplace like the GMC or yoyogames and make heavy use of the help files included with game maker. Any d&d function can be recreated using GML, so try figuring out how to rewrite your existing games to GML before trying to create new code from scratch. It's too big of a subject to just cover in one post though.
