| Well... I came across this tutorial today and I thought, why not try to make some music... well its not exactly pokemon style but this is the wip result. It's definitely not pkmn-y though
link
It's be fun to hear others' creations as well if you guys would like to try. It is in B♭ major and I used "Lead 3 (calliope)," "Gunshot (used as drum noise)," and "Applause (used as drum noise)."
and because I hate burying the Revamp topic, check out that as well :|
I posted a chart of different eyes on different fatnesses of an npc.

That is a really nice tutorial :o
However, there are some things you should be aware of:
- There is no bass. Basses are really important in Pokémon music.
- Only one lead melody? Most of the Pokémon soundtracks have 2 lead melodies or even more.
- For the percussion, Pokémon games only use a drum kit and a timpani. Nothing more or less.
- Don't try using synthesized instruments like that lead 3 instrument. With synthesized instruments, I mean instruments that can't be played normally in real life. Synthesizers, flutes, oboes etc. can be played in real life and are thus allowed in Pokémon music.
Hope that helps :)
If you're trying to mimic gen III style, you should use lots of trumpets and horns, by the way.

I hate to say, but GXSCC doesn't really make it 8-bit.
Yeah, of course, it uses loads of synthesizers and it sounds 8-bitish, but it isn't real 8-bit.
8-bit has 2 lead channels, one bass channel and one drum channel. GXSCC doesn't decrease the number of channels, it only changes the instruments.
You advertise shamelessy, I advertise shamelessy
EDIT: Gen III does use some synthesized instruments, but only a few times for a short time. For example the first 2 seconds of the wild battle theme from RSE use one and then it isn't heard anymore for the rest of the song. Gen IV and V don't use it anymore at all. |
