Hey there, I'm not dead yet even though I haven't really been on for a bit. Truth of the matter is that my laptop was broken quite a while ago and while waiting for repairs I've been out of commission. One of my bros is willing to let me use his when he doesn't need it but he wants me to work on an original 150 for him in return. After some thought I've actually quite enjoyed planning some guys out so I thought I would share what I have on the starters so far. My pokemon style sprites are improving and I haven't given up on my first attempt yet but they still need work. I also have hand drawn designs that are still going through planning. These guys will sadly never make it into a game but I don't really care, it's about the experience. So after that large and pointless monologue, check out my art and tell me what you think. Also, what exactly is the rule on bumping around these parts?
SPOILER:
grass starter 1st and 3rd (sprite WIP of 1st)
SPOILER:
fire starter 1st
SPOILER:
ghost/steel type

There isn't really one because its impossible to double post(the forum forces you to edit) and if you bump a topic from the dead, you might get flamed a little but its okay if you have a legitimate reason and are not being noobish... as for the first two designs, they just don't seem to scream pokemon to me... They lack the childish charm i guess. The sprite is okay but I suggest studying similar parts of real sprites like bulbasaur for example. as for the last one, the idea seems too similar to Shelmet #616

Despite the similarities, I love the second form of the Ghost/Steel Pokemon. The third form is OK but I'm curious as to if it has hands or not. I like the fire starter although it does need a little touch up to be more "Pokemon-like" (mainly eyes), and I'm not too fond of the grass one.

i don't mind the ghost/steel design. in fact i'm kinda surprised game freak haven't made a ghost/steel type yet... unless i've forgotten one? :P nice designs for them anyway, i don't think they're that similar to shelmet :P

Just realized one of the pics at the top wasn't working. On the topic of the ghost guy, My problem with him is that his first two actually make me think of ghastly and haunter with helmets. Also thanks for reminding me I totally forgot to draw the guantlets on the final form!! That shelmet thing does have a similar helmet to the first guy though, but I'm actually still repressing most of the designs from 5th gen to this day so I pretend they don't exist. On the topic of the fire starter, I get what your saying about having very unfitting eyes, but maybe this will help justify me (or probably not). It's based on an imp or devil, you can't really tell because the scanner cut his arrow on his tail off. He will eventually become some sort of fire/dark Balrog type thing or something. That's why he has evil eyes, of course maybe I should have just made them mean looking. Thanks for commenting and taking a look at my artwork! It's still just starting off so I appreciate the crit.

The first (even if it looks like a bulbasaur and a vileplume mashed up, in a good way though) and last two are orgasmic. the third one reminds me of pikachu from hell(Demonchu!). And the second one looks like Gallade had a baby with Ben Tennyson as swampfire with random wings thrown in. the third from the last needs something.

They're great sprites, and I think you should dedicate your time to making an original RPG. Making a Pokemon fan game ain't easy, and your style of graphics and concepts would make a great midievil RPG. Just a thought.

Image This is the happiest I've ever been with a pokemon attempt so far. It's more 3rd gen I think but I like that style more anyway. Also I definitely see the Gallade in this guy! slightly accidental but it's probably because Gallade is my all time favorite from 4th gen. EDIT: actually after another look I'm crazy, this isn't 3rd gen. I'm smart. Gamefortress: I am in no way, shape, or form ballsy enough to attempt a pokemon fan-game! I am impressed beyond words with how far your team has come but I don't know where I would come up with all 150. My bro wants me to start though and his word is law, or I'm a nice brother. More updates soon, I need to do some work on all my designs because they still don't quite look right. I'm hoping the ghosts will become pokemon in the sprite transition, but that could be too much to hope for. The first grass starter I actually think lost some if he had any to give, so I've got some work to do there. EDIT: Fire (dark) starter final form Image

I'm back and my laptop has finally come home from repairs. I've got some work done and I wouldn't mind hearing thoughts on the matter. If you guys thought I was stealing before then wait till you see the "haunter clone". This was my bro's original idea so I blame him. So here is the roster so far. #3 Primrose Image Grass/Fighting #6 Penumblaze Image Fire/Dark #9 Wayfinn Image Water/Psychic(? not my idea, there is a separate design with light blue lines in an attempt for a more psychic look but I hate it) ? Capugost Image Ghost/Steel ?? Gauntlett Image Ghost/Steel ??? Poltergigath Image Ghost/Steel (WIP, fresh off the grill)

Hmm... I'd say darken the outlines on the outsde and make them a lot lighter on the inside. I'd also make the tail smaller on capugost but that is just a stylistic choice to me. Il really like them and penumblaze is actually really cool

I probably like Primrose the best, but that's because I love grass and water types and believe that Wayfin has odd front fins. Other than that, I agree with Bouncy. Less tail, darker outlines.
