So lately I've been working on the German and Dutch translations of PycoForums and it has me wondering, what languages do you guys know. For me, I know English (duh) and I've taken 2 high school Spanish classes and I will be started my 3rd college German class this fall. Also, if you fluently speak a non-english language, I'd be willing to add your language to the list of languages available in PycoForums. I'd just need your help translating. You can change your PycoForums language by going to My Control - > Board Settings. Here is the PycoForums Translation Project page: http://pycosites.com/pf_translations.php. If you wish to help with the translation, that lists the progress we have made on our existing translations. Additional phrases will be added to the list as time goes on. If you need context for a particular phrase, either try to locate it on the forum or just ask on the shoutbox.

Alright, I set up a page listing our current translation progress: http://pycosites.com/pf_translation.php Once a language becomes selectable on the settings, its progress will be added to that list. See the first posts edit for more info.

Considering many of them are multiple words, that wouldn't allow many languages to fit on the screen.

tbh even 2 languages wouldnt fit on most screens, the point of this list is to see whats missing from the non-english translations. not see all the existing translations =/

I'm willing to translate Pyco into pretty much any real language that uses the english alphabet, whether it has 10,000 speakers or 10 million. All I need is people willing to translate the list of words accurately =p

It's not professional quality though, it makes a ton of mistakes and doesn't always use proper modern phrases. I rely on fluent speakers to do my translating properly.

Which means you won't have the widest selection of languages :P
Maybe so, but if I don't have any fluent speakers of a language visiting then I don't need to support the language.

Ooh we could really use help with a French translation, it's hard to find fluent speakers of French for some reason. If you want to help to translate just use the link in the first post, it has a list of what we currently need. Once I get a decent amount of translations for a language I'll add it to the list. @Darih Brazil or regular?

The forum should accept accented letters o.o é à, è, ù â, ê, î, ô, û ë, ï, ü, ÿ ç Anyway, the forum already has a mostly complete brazil translation so we could actually use the portugal variety =] This topic is about translating the forum interface itself, not the game =p

Adding translations is ridiculously easy and doesn't take up any time I might use for programming forum features.

Maybe if people helped translate I'd be more motivated to make progress on the forum programming.

You haven't suggested any features that aren't already on the planned feature list. If your not going to translate then don't reply to this topic anymore =/ The forum has been focused mostly on the shoutbox thats why topics don't get posted in much.

This topic has nothing to do with this specific forums popularity, the translations are for the PycoForums system not just the Game Fortress Forums. It has nothing to do with the game and nothing to do with Game Fortress.

Thanks a lot for the portuguese translation I've added all the words you gave me to the forum and added Portuguese to the translation project site so everyone can see what we're still missing =]

Well this topic is for the forum translation, it's not on the pt wiki. What you do is translate the words/phrases on http://pycosites.com/pf_translation.php and either post them here or pm them to me.

It's been a while since anyone has posted here so this is kind of an unofficial bump, we still need translation help D= Also as a follow up to my original post, I finished 4 semesters of college German and ended up taking 2 semesters of Spanish as an elective.

Awesome =D To celebrate I've worked on a few improvements to the whole translation system, some are behind the scenes and some are incomplete but I'll share a couple now. First off, I added subdomains corresponding to all the available languages. This way you can view the forum in a different language without having to change your settings. So here's the languages available: http://en.pycoforums.com/gff English http://de.pycoforums.com/gff German http://nl.pycoforums.com/gff Dutch http://pt.pycoforums.com/gff Portuguese http://br.pycoforums.com/gff Portuguese (Brazil) http://fr.pycoforums.com/gff French http://es.pycoforums.com/gff Spanish http://ro.pycoforums.com/gff Romanian (glitchy at the moment) I haven't completely decided how viewing these subdomains will interact with your default language setting so I don't recommend bookmarking or sharing them quite yet. Secondly, I've started making the whole translation tracking system a lot fancier. It used to be 100% manual editing, now it will be managed by a database that can automatically generate the language php files for me. In the short term, this doesn't really change much for you guys except that the new translation project page is slightly fancier and (currently) missing like half the words. In the long run it will really help me with getting the forums 100% translated because adding new phrases and updating the status of old ones is so much easier. I'll also be able to make the project page even fancier now that the data is in database form.
